Hong Kong: Why is Pre-arrival Registration required?

Hong Kong is one of the most frequently visited cities in the world due to it’s established financial centers and endless blooming opportunities in the corporate world. Its growing pool of skilled human capital and exchange of strategic dynamism makes it a hot-spot for business and development. Besides this, it has a diverse culture and stunning attraction sites for tourism.

Many entrepreneurs and officials lose the opportunity of traveling to Hong Kong due to a common blunder/misunderstanding, that Hong Kong can be visited via a valid Chinese visa. Visa Guide has identified this myth and we’re happy to solve it.

Hong Kong requires a separate visa because Hong Kong remains a Special Administrative Region (SAR) with its own visa policy and requirements.

The Pre-arrival Registration (PAR) process is a hassle for most people who’re planning a trip to Hong Kong. We hope this blog helps clear all the queries.

About 170 countries do not require a Visa for Hong Kong including India. However, there is one particular requirement that Indians going to Hong Kong for business purposes need to meet and that is the pre-arrival registration (PAR) which is to be done BEFORE their visit to HK.

Indians can stay in Hong Kong for up to 14 days visa-free, provided they have a notification slip that confirms their registration. This registration is valid for 6 months.

Eligibility criteria :

1. Applicants must hold an Indian passport valid for at least 6 months.
2. Must have a valid email address, as the notification slip of eVisa is sent to you on the registered email address.

Note:

If you’re in direct transit by air and not leaving the airport, pre-arrival registration is not required.

Process :

1. Go to the official website of the Hong Kong government.  https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/services/visas/pre-arrival_registration_for_indian_nationals.html
2. Click on the declaration check-box to start the procedure.
There is 3 step in this procedure.

Step 1:

Input registration details –
This step requires you to fill in your general information such as name, address, passport information etc.

Step 2:

Confirmation of registration –
You can view your form and re-check it before submitting. It is extremely crucial to make sure all the information on your form is 100% accurate and there are no errors of any kind.

Step 3:

Acknowledgment –
A tag of “Pre-arrival Registration Successful” should be displayed.

Applying for a PAR Visa is quite easy as it’s a small form and should take nearly 20 mins to fill.

In case of an error message stating, “Pre-arrival Registration Unsuccessful”. The applicant cannot re-submit the online form as the data stored for an applicant keeps recurring.

As there is no Hong Kong embassy in India, the applicant has to send hard copies of the required documents to Hong Kong immigration and pay HK $190 (INR 1800 approx) in case if the PAR fails, this process takes up to 4 weeks of time.

We hope this was helpful 🙂

Have a safe trip to Hong Kong!
